Queries on Run Eligibility

There have been queries raised regarding the eligibility of motorcycles on Cornwall Section runs, and some concern about the actions of the committee in allowing members to take part in section runs using machines less than 25 years old. I have put these points to Neil Lewis; President of the VMCC and below is his reply.
“Events organised by the Club are primarily intended for machines older than 25 years. Event organisers have discretion to apply whatever age limits they consider appropriate or none, to the machines to be ridden by participants.
This has been in place since May 2022, without challenge by resolution at an AGM. The club's public liability insurance includes no age stipulation either for machines.
Your committee should recognise that they are doing nothing wrong with regards to machines taking part in section events.
”Basically, it is entirely up to the section and the run organiser to stipulate what is allowed to take part on section runs. If a section decides to accept nothing under 40 years old on a run that is up to them, similarly if a section decides that members, for whatever reason, are allowed to use modern machines that again is their right.
A question was also raised about the use of a car on a section run. I can confirm that no cars have ever been entered, or used, for a section run during my term as section secretary. The particular incident in question occurred when a committee member, attended the start of a run, using his modern car, and carried out the organisational duties assigned. The committee member than returned home and drove his classic car to the end of the run to take part in the end of run social event. The member did not sign on for the run, did not receive a route sheet, and did not follow the route. The member did make a donation to club funds and was given an unused rally plate as a memento, as did a few other members of the committee who could not take part in the run due to organisational duties.
